2025 ICPA Conference & Awards Lunch

Saturday, April 12 • Indiana Memorial Union • Indiana University-Bloomington

Join students and advisers from across the state for the annual ICPA conference. We’ll have speakers and sessions for students working on their college websites, newspapers, literary magazines, news magazines and yearbooks in the morning. The awards lunch follows in the afternoon. We’ll announce 300 awards at the lunch. A complete list of awards will be posted at icpaconnect.org after the lunch.

When: Saturday, April 12, 2025. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Sessions begin at 10:30 a.m.

What? There will be sessions for websites, newspapers, yearbook, magazine and literary journal staffs from 10:30-11:20 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-12:20 p.m. After the sessions, we’ll gather for the annual awards lunch.

  • What to know to get the job. In a competitive job market, the best job candidates are impossible to ignore. Some tips and insights about what many employers are seeking out, and how you can best prepare yourself. — Lisa Renze, Free Press Indiana
  • Know your rights. Worried about outside pressure from people in positions of authority, politicians, administrators and others? Are sources not giving you in the information you need to do your work? There’s a lawyer in Indiana who’s available to talk through your concerns. — Kris Cundiff, Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press
  • News is breaking — now what? In a developing news story, there are a lot of moving parts that need to come together quickly and accurately. Get tips on how to handle breaking news from a multimedia reporter who covers a campus just like you. — Ethan Sandweiss, Indiana Public Media.
  • Is your literary magazine staff feeling a chill? There’s a lot of tension surrounding a variety of topics in our politicized world. This can have a chilling effect on staffs producing literary journals. Are you questioning what content to include in your publication? Concerned about pushback or criticism from people in positions of authority? Where: Sessions are in the Indiana Memorial Union’s Biddle Conference Center, Indiana University, 900 E. Seventh St. Bloomington, Indiana. All talks are in the Tree Suites on the mezzanine level. Lunch is in the Georgian Room on the first floor. Here is a map of the IU campus and a floor map of the IMU.

Where should I park? There are a variety of parking lots adjacent to the IU campus. Two are next to the IMU. See the link to the map above. Discounted parking passes are included with registration.

What should I bring? Bring a stack of your publications to share on the publication exchange table. If you didn’t prepay your registration fees, bring a check payable to ICPA.
